REDWOOD ROCKETS U14   1 – 2  ASHBOURNE AZTECS U14

Aztecs played against a severe wind and struggled to get out of their own half for the first 10 minutes, the back four of Sadler, Evans, Donnely and Partridge stood strong and withstood the pressure from Redwood Dawson in goal pulling off a couple of saves. Aztecs then  started to put some good passing moves together and pushed forward having a couple of shots go wide and the keeper making a number of saves. With Aztecs pushing forward Redwood broke quickly, the ball could have been cleared out but the defender tried to turn and lost possession leaving the striker to run through and smack the ball into the net. It was disappointing as Aztecs were having a good spell of possession and putting Redwood under pressure. Play remained fairly even up to the break so it was 1-0 at half time.

Now with the wind behind them Aztecs camped in Redwood’s half of the pitch creating chance after chance, Redwood defended doggedly but a back heel from Russell across the area allowed AIDEN PRICKETT to smack the ball into the roof of the net to level the score. Again and again Aztecs went close but the winner would not come, with Aztecs pushing forward Redwood counter attacked Dawson was called on to make a number of saves a free kick just going over the bar. With time almost up and just a few seconds to go ARRON RUSSELL fired in a high lofted shot from 25 yards over the defence and the keeper the ball dropping into the top left corner of the net to win the game. It must have been heartbreaking for Redwood but on the balance of play Aztecs had been the stronger team. Man of the match was awarded to Nick Partridge for a solid performance in defence.

TEAM: Kieran Dawson, Oliver Sadler, Eddy Donnelly, Jack Evans, Nick Partridge, Thomas Mc Hugh, Max Wainwright, Mike Leason, Benjo Laurie, Ben Sanders, Arron Russell, Aiden Prickett and Jack Coats.

ASHBOURNE AZTECS U14   4 – 2   BELPER TOWN U14

This was a game between two evenly matched teams so both sides fancied themselves for the three points. Play started even with both teams playing some good football and testing the keepers. Belper opened the scoring with a good shot just inside the post, three minutes later a perfectly weighted through ball from Sanders saw AIDEN PRICKET run through and smack the ball past the keeper to level. Belper upped the pressure and out of a scramble in Aztecs box the ball was cleared out only to a Belper player who smashed it back into the top corner to put the visitors back into the lead. A powerful run by KIERAN DAWSON broke through the defence and fierce shot beat the keeper to level again, Belper broke through and a goal bound effort was cleared off the line by Jack Evans so the teams were even at the break.

Belper had been stronger in the first half but Aztecs came out very strong after the break  the keeper making some good saves, BAILEY MITCHELL smashed the ball against the post the ball ran along the goal line hit the other post and went in to put Aztecs ahead. Belper hit back but Owen Ryan in Aztecs goal saved everything coming at him. With time running out a scramble in Belpers box saw the ball come out for KIERAN DAWSON with a looping header over the keeper into the top corner to finish the scoring for Aztecs and win 4-2 to collect the three points. It was a very entertaining game with both sides playing neat passing football with determination and passion.

Team: Owen Ryan, Oliver Sadler, Jack Evans, Eddy Donnely, Nick Partridge, Thomas Mc Hugh, Jack Coats, Kieran Dawson, Bailey Mitchell, Max Wainwright, Michale Leason, Ben Sanders, Aiden Prickett and Benjo Laurie.

ASHBOURNE AZTECS U14    8 - 3   STANTON ILKESTON U14

This was a cup match played at Mappleton, from the kick off Aztecs were on the attack, Sanders and Wainwright having shots saved by the keeper. As the game wore on Stanton came more into it and created chances Dawson pulling off a number of saves. Just before half time sander broke through the defence and slotted the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. From the kick off Aztecs won the ball Wainwright powered through and smacked the ball into the net for the second. Within another minute Aztecs were through again Sanders beating the keeper for number three, Stanton were glad to hear the half time whistle.
Stanton started well attacking Aztecs, Dawson saving comfotably, off a long kick Pricket latched onto the through ball and shot into the bottom corner for number 4. Wainwright recieved the ball in mid-field and laid a perfect pass for Sanders to run onto and smack it past the keeper for his hatrick and number 5. Now with nothing to lose Stanton attacked in numbers and in a five minute spell pulled two goals back, could this be the fight back ?. Bond played a great pass through the defence perfect for Wainwright who took it on and smacked in the sixth, Stanton scored again for 6 - 3. Partridge who was moved from defence to play up front picked up a pass from Mc Hugh and stabbed it past the keeper for number 7, five minutes later a through ball from Wainwright saw Partridge net again to finish the scoring at 8 - 3. It had been a good match well contested by both teams with an excellent attitude to playing good football.

TEAM: Kieron Dawson, Kyle Bond, Eddy Donnely, Nick Partridge, Mike Leason Max Wainwright, Benjo Laurie, Aiden Prickett, Tom Mc Hugh, Tom Poxon and  Ben Sanders
