Aztecs Enjoy Trip To Forest
Ashbourne Aztecs Under 8's were invited to a prestigious evening of friendly matches at Nottingham Forest Football Club's Academy on Friday. The team was invited by Forest's academy director Stewart Rowley after he took two of the Aztec's coaches Barry Rushton and Steve Walwyn on their FA Level 1 coaching course in January, and they were helped on the evening by fellow Aztec's under 8 coach Bryn Williams. The team of 10 players supported by family and friends made their way to the Wilford Lane Academy full of enthusiasm and had refreshments before the teams made their way onto the championships impressive academy facilities. The eight team tournament included four teams from Forest, two from Chesterfield and one from Oadby in Leicestershire as well as the Aztecs. The matches were played on a 2G astroturf surface, with matches running at 12 minutes long in a strong wind. Aztec's under 8's were a credit to the town and the club putting up spirited performances against some very strong opposition. Goalscorers on the night were Jacob Edge-Lucas and Alfie Allcock and there were some very good performances from all of the boys. Aztec's Under 8's were also asked to return next season in a similar event in which the delighted boys willingly eaccepted. The coaches thanked all the boys, parents and supporters who made the trip a success and will hopefully look forward to taking at least two teams next season to the same venue.
